Transitioning from College
With more people graduating from college than ever aside a current workforce delaying retirement later than ever, there’s a talent overage. We’re in the middle of an employee’s market with unemployment rates at an all-time low over the last few years. Competition is fierce and it may feel daunting to look for a job when you have no prior experience against those with years of experience.
This service would focus on how to leverage your newly learned critical thinking and technical skills to translate into the workforce. It would also focus on setting realistic expectations on the challenges and obstacles that may come your way through the job search process.
College discount would apply for these sessions; one for undergraduates and another for graduate students.
Isn’t Career Services at my college enough?
Although there are wonderful Career Advisors and services at most colleges, they are still in the world of academia, a bit removed from the hiring practices and decision makers in the job market. Many Career Advisors have connections to decision makers at an organization, especially when it comes to internships. It’s full-time employment where things get a little more tricky as you’re competing against candidates with a degree and more experience.
It’s about utilizing the current resources you may have at your college campus while including other resources outside of school to gain an interview for the job you’re wanting. A diversified portfolio tends to perform better over the long-term and the same rule would apply here.
Depending on your financial circumstance and time line, we’ll come up with a strategy to navigate toward the job you’re wanting to start your career. Some degrees may help land an entry-level role to start your career, quickly. Degrees in Finance and Computer Science are good examples. While other degrees may not have a direct entry into a job. The sessions may focus on volunteer work, apprenticeships, or even transition jobs that would help you pay the bills while keeping a focus toward the job you’re truly seeking. It’s about refining time and energy spent toward the work you’re meant to do. I’ll help in creating momentum for that job you want.
